Gurney Elementary School - Facility Updates
Summer 2021
The District made HVAC upgrades to the building, adding cooling to all the classrooms that did not previously have air conditioning. The new systems eliminate viruses such as Covid-19 and influenza, eliminate odors, and increase efficiency of the filters. The new system and ventilators also provide better air quality and reduce energy consumption.
Roof work was completed at both Gurney and the Comfort Station which sits to the west of the school along the soccer fields.
An emergency generator was installed in the event of power loss.
Summer 2022
The gym and cafeteria received new lighting. The cafeteria also received new flooring. Both spaces will receive upgrades to the acoustics to help create an enhanced learning environment. Over the past five years, classroom floors continued to be improved.
Gurney’s in-house maintenance team installed some additional wooden locker/cubbies to provide storage space for student items in some additional areas.
The softball field on Gurney’s property also has a new scoreboard thanks to a donation from the Chagrin Falls Boosters.
A $20,000 update to the modular unit at Gurney extended its life as well
Safety and Security Improvements
Gurney now has an upgraded vestibule entrance, improved access control systems with hardware and technology to control access, and increased security camera coverage. A recent grant from the State of Ohio will allow the District to upgrade and improve door hardware and door locking equipment among other areas of safety.
In 2022, a new building fire alarm system was installed to replace the aging system.
Exterior site lighting was added recently so that there is new LED lighting on the entire property.
