Chromebook Repair
Here a few tips you can try if your Chromebook isn't working as expected. Please note, these tips are designed for issues with the software of the Chromebook. If the device is physically broken (broken screen, broken keyboard, etc), it will need to be turned into the library or the student's homeroom teacher for repair.
Restart
We always suggest a restart first as part of the troubleshooting process. Often times, this will take care of little glitches or small problems that the device might be having. If restarting the Chromebook doesn't fix the problem, move on to the next step.
Remove The User
Sometimes, the settings for a specific student user get corrupted. Removing the student's account from the computer and re-adding it can fix these issues. To begin, log out of the Chromebook. On the login screen, click the small arrow next to the end of the student's name. Choose "Remove" from the list of available options. The system will ask if you are sure you want to do this. Choose Yes. The student's account will be removed along with all of the settings saved locally on the computer. Now, from the main screen, choose "Add User" and enter your child's @chagrinstudents.org email address and password. Once they are logged in, allow the device 5-10 minutes to download all the settings, preferences, etc. After this is done, try whatever wasn't working for you and see if things are working as expected. If not, move on to the next step.
Powerwash
This is the last option for troubleshooting at home. You can try this when all else fails.
Log out of your Chromebook.
Press and hold Ctrl + Alt + Shift + r.
Select Restart.
In the box that appears, select Powerwash Continue.
The system will take a few minutes to reload all the settings, etc. It will reset as if it was a fresh, out of the box device. You'll need to connect it to wireless internet. Once done, it will automatically enroll into the Chagrin Falls Schools. Once it's ready, enter your child's @chagrinstudents.org email address and password. Once they are logged in, allow the device 5-10 minutes to download all the settings, preferences, etc.
Hopefully, one of these three tips will get the Chromebook working again. If not, please have your student talk to their homeroom teacher (K-6) or visit the building library (7-12) to get the issues resolved.
Chromebook Chargers
Students are responsible for their chargers. The district does not replace lost or broken chargers. Replacement chargers can be purchased on Amazon at the link below. Please contact the technology department if you have any questions before purchasing a replacement charger.
